Men’s Monday Dec. 10, 2018

There are not too many days that I do not ask myself this question: What Am I Supposed to Do with My Life? There is not a day that goes by that God does not interject Himself into my life, wanting me to change direction. But don’t worry, I know better than Him!!! Why is it that I/you/we ignore those promptings from the Spirit? The answer is NOT that I know better. THRIVING will happen when you make yourself available for God to work through you. If you stop to think about, really pray over it, that choice, being available, is not that hard. Are you available for your wife? Children? Work mates? Friends? Generally speaking, it is a resounding yes for those folks. Why does God fit into the equation at 2nd or 3rd place? Shouldn’t we fix that?   As we concluded our THRIVE series, Chuck gave us this point: There are 3 things that will tempt you to STOP doing what you are supposed to do and to give up on Thriving – Problems, Pressures and People. Isn’t that the truth! So perfectly stated. Imagine for a second, if life did not provide you with any problems, pressures or folks with whom to share life. (In the first part of my career, I managed 4 and 5-star hotels in Washington, DC. I used to say all the time, hotels would be so much easier to manage if it were not for these people who showed up every day wanting to sleep and take a shower. Oh yeah, then we had to have a staff to clean them the next day…more people, more problems) Problems, Pressures and People…now imagine life without them. We Thrive when we use the gifts and talents in which God has given us to deal with problems, manage the pressures and love the people God has put in our path. I CANNOT imagine life any other way.   Bottom line, Thriving is not about material things that we accumulate. I had a pastor once preach, “Have you ever seen a U-Haul attached to a hearse?” You cannot take it with you which is exactly why Thriving is more about our relationship with Jesus, our relationship with others and how we serve both.   “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10) Make that your screensaver on your phone or computer; put that on a post it note on your desk; frame that for your shop; write it down on several pieces of paper and put it in your wallet, your gun case, your bathroom…anywhere and everywhere that will remind you that no matter the problems, no matter the pressures and not matter the people, Jesus came so that we can have life and have it abundantly and be reminded, He is coming again and our goal…be sure that everyone is coming with us!   Reminder, our men’s small group will NOT be meeting this Wednesday. Our business meeting will start at 6pm that night and it is important that we all attend. Please be sure to attend to discuss the upcoming year’s budget and other business-related items. Thriving doesn’t stop at the end of a sermon series; it is a lifetime decision, one that affects others.   I love you all!   Trevor Pastor of Men’s Ministry
